about

This song has been in my repertoire for the better part of a two years. I wrote it around the time I moved from Goulburn to Melbourne. Personally, the track captures that time of transition - living in a whole new city, meeting new people and questioning who I was. It caused me to deeply reflect on the relationships that had broken down throughout my early years and learning that I more was responsible for than I ever realised. In addition, I became acutely aware of how people interacted in a city. No longer did it feel right to smile at passing strangers as you would in a rural town. I had just moved to a beautiful city which seemed to be largely unappreciated by the people of it, however, I've met some better people since. All of these emotions where circling my head as I tried to make peace with them.

This track would not be what it is without the incredible work and enthusiasm of my friends and colleagues Dom "Time-Feel" Stitt, Ben Cooke and Max Teakle. Their musicianship and ideas gave this song a whole new energy that I couldn't possibly have conjured on my own. This recording is a testament to the power of collaboration with passionate talented people.

A massive thank you to Will Latham. His generosity and dedication on this project made it such a joy to record. The drums sound especially good!

Finally, I want to thank my incredible friends who encourage me to keep making music despite the doubt that I might feel. I hope to never lose perspective of how fortunate I really am.

lyrics

The best friends in my life, I don't know where they've gone
They're not too far but they're far from close
I blame me for who I've become 'cause it's not a game to be won
I wish I could see them with my eyes now

Feels like my eyes were never open to the view
I won't spend my life only climbing to get nowhere
One day I'll be wiser and I'll know just what to do
Feels like my mind was only talking and I missed the view

I thought I had decoded the secret
The world seemed controlled by all the people worth hating
I blamed them, I'm sure they're guilty but it never made the world any better
Angry at the shifts in culture 'till I learnt to turn off my screen

Feels like my eyes were never open to the view
I won't spend my life only climbing to get nowhere
One day I'll be wiser and I'll know just what to do
Feels like my mind was only talking and I missed the view

I'm sorry
I didn't know, didn't know what I know now
I'm sorry
I didn't know, didn't know why you cared

Feels like my eyes were never open to the view
I won't spend my life only climbing to get nowhere
One day I'll be wiser and I'll know just what to do
Feels like my mind was only talking and I missed the view

Feels like my eyes were never open to the view
Feels like my eyes were never open to the view
